Going Beyond the Land Acknowledgement: Building Relationship to Place
Born from the popularity of Episode 25 of the Go Smudge Yourself podcast, this workshop was created in direct response to community requests for deeper, action-based learning around Land Acknowledgements.
The Going Beyond the Land Acknowledgment: Building Relationship to Place workshop guides participants through a 7-Step Protocol to help them craft meaningful, Reconciliation-based acknowledgements rooted in local context. This session moves beyond surface-level gestures and checklists to focus on long-term, reflective engagement with Reconciliation.
Participants explore respectful language, honor all Beings in the region, and reflect on their personal and organizational Relationship to Place.
Ideal for teams and organizations across Yukon and beyond who are ready to engage with Land Acknowledgements in a more meaningful and accountable way.
Participants will receive Reconciliation-based guidance on crafting respectful Land Acknowledgements through the lens of Relationship to Place. Using a 7-Step Protocol, this workshop shifts away from a checklist mindset and instead centers a “What now?” approach—fostering ongoing, meaningful engagement with Reconciliation.
The session includes a dedicated time for questions and discussion.
The 3-hour workshop includes all the foundational teachings from the 90-minute session, with added depth and engagement. In addition to Reconciliation-based training, participants will have the opportunity to reflect and actively practice crafting their own Land Acknowledgements in collaboration with peers.
The session also includes a wellness break and concludes with a closing Circle to support connection, integration, and shared learning.
Cultivating Safe Spaces
Cultivating Safe Spaces is a heart-centered, trauma-informed training grounded in Traditional Indigenous Knowledge. Designed for individuals and organizations across Canada and Turtle Island, this workshop supports the creation of inclusive, decolonized environments that foster healing, creativity, and innovation.
Through a holistic approach, participants explore identity, belonging, and Indigenous Ways of Knowing, while gaining practical tools to co-create safer, relational spaces in both personal and professional settings. The training addresses the impacts of vicarious trauma, lateral violence, and working with traumatized populations, offering strategies for spiritual self-care, team wellness, and trauma-informed leadership.
Participants also learn to plan meetings and gatherings using the Conditions and Protocols for Cultivating Safe Spaces, including the Four Perspectives and their distinct communication styles—essential for facilitating respectful, culturally aware dialogue.
Ideal for educators, non-profits, health authorities, and public service teams committed to Reconciliation and the decolonization of workplaces, this training supports deep relationship-building and system change without appropriating Indigenous Knowledge.
Available in both virtual and in-person formats.
